Situated on the banks of the Kopai River, about 10 km from Bolpur-Shantiniketan, Kankalitala is one of Bengalβs important Shaktipeeths. According to the Pitha Nirnay Tantra, the waist (Kankhal) of Goddess Sati fell at this holy site. The presiding deity is worshipped as Goddess Kankali, while the Pitha Bhairava is revered as Rudra. A sacred pond beside the temple is believed to preserve the holy reminiscence of the Goddess. Unlike conventional idols, the Goddess Kali is worshipped here through a traditional Patachitra painting. The temple remains a major pilgrimage destination throughout the year, with the grandest celebrations taking place during Chaitra Sankranti, when a special puja and a five-day fair are organized.
Fulfilment of Desires: Kankali Tala is known as a Siddha Peeth. Devotees tie a red thread around the Wish-Fulfilling Tree (Manaskamana Briksha) within the temple complex, hoping the Goddess will grant their deepest desires.
Justice Delivery: This Shaktipeeth is known for delivering justice and removing obstacles from the path of those who seek protection.
Health and Childbirth: Kankalitala is a sanctuary for those who are seeking speedy recovery from chronic illnesses. It is also deeply revered by those who are praying for the blessing of a child.
Removal of Astrological Doshas: Devotees visit this temple to get rid of the Mangal Dosha and mitigate the impacts of other astrological misalignments.
