Temple History
Located in Ketugram, East Burdwan, the Bahula Shaktipeeth is about 14-17 km from Katwa Junction. Ketugram is home to two Bahulakshmi temples in proximity. The older temple, on the banks of the river Ishani, is also known as the Adi Peetha. The surrounding area is known as βMoraghatβ, referring to an ancient cremation ground that existed here. The other temple is comparatively modern, constructed around 1922-23. The Goddess here is worshipped in her Mahishasurmardini Durga form; therefore, Durga Puja is considered the prime festival at this Peetha. Ganesh Chaturthi is also celebrated hugely as Siddhidata Ganesha, in his extremely rare eight-armed form, resides here to grant the wishes of his devotees. Other notable festivals celebrated here include Poila Baishakh (the Bengali New Year), Nabanna (the Harvesting festival), and Dol Purnima (The full moon night before Holi).
