Mahavar, widely known as Aalta in Eastern India, is a vibrant red liquid dye that holds a deeply auspicious place in Hindu culture. It is an essential offering for Devi worship, and is used to adorn her lotus feet. Beyond its ceremonial use, it is traditionally applied to the borders of the feet and hands of women.
