Temple History

The Naba Kailash Temple is about 2 km from the Kalna Railway Station, and stands face-to-face with the famous Rajbari Complex. This site draws huge attention for its unique rosary (Japamala) like formation, where 108 small shrines, dedicated to Lord Shiva, are standing side by side in 2 concentric circles. The inner circle contains 34 shrines, while the outer circle contains 74. Each shrine houses a Shiva Lingam, crafted from either white stone (representing SadaShiva) or black stone (symbolizing Rudra). All the shrines feature Bengal’s unique ‘Aat Chala’ temple architecture. Maha Shiv Ratri is observed with great devotion at this place.
