Temple History
Located within the famous Rajbari Complex of Ambika Kalna, the Krishnachandraji Temple is about 2km from the Kalna Railway Station. Pancha-Vimsati Ratna (25-Pinnacled) temple structure is extremely rare in India, and the Krishnachandraji Temple is one of only five such temples found in West Bengal. Due to its magnificent architecture, this temple draws thousands of visitors each year. The terracotta panels on the temple wall illustrate various stories from Lord Krishna’s life, such as Krishna’s birth and escape, the killing of Putana, the killing of Bakasur, Krishna's leaving for Mathura, and so on. However, the Krishnachndraji Temple is particularly famous for depicting the contemporary society of the 18th-century Bengal through its intricate artwork. Along with religious tales, the terracotta panels show everyday stories, such as European soldiers hunting with guns.
