Kojagari Lakshmi Puja

Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is performed to seek the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi for wealth, prosperity, and abundance. It removes financial obstacles and brings success, happiness, harmony, and good fortune into life.

  • Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is a beautiful and highly auspicious worship of the Goddess of Wealth. According to the classical Purohit Darpan, on this specific night, the boon-giving Goddess Lakshmi roams the earth. She asks, "Ko Jagarti?" (Who is awake?) and bestows immense wealth, fortune, and prosperity upon those devotees who remain awake to worship her. It is a joyful night traditionally celebrated by fasting, drinking coconut water, offering flattened rice to the deities and ancestors, and staying awake playing auspicious games with natural cowrie shells.
  • This highly specific worship is performed once a year on the full moon (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashvin. The classical manuals strictly state that the Purnima must extend into the evening/night (Pradosha), as the Goddess's arrival and the devotees' vigil peak at midnight (Nishith).
  • Step 1 - Gandha (Sacred Paste): Lovingly apply the Chandan, Khukumoni Sindur, and Alta to the Goddess and the Ghat while chanting: "Om Gandhang Namah".
  • Step 2 - Pushpa (Flowers & Wealth): Offer fresh flowers, the Kamal Gatta (Lotus seeds), and the golden Dhaner Sish at her lotus feet while chanting: "Om Pushpang Baushat".
  • Step 3 - Dhupa (Incense): Light the Agarbatti and burn the Dhuna Powder over the Chhobra to create a fragrant, purifying smoke while chanting: "Om Dhupang Namah".
  • Step 4 - Deepa (Illumination): Light your lamps using the Cotton Wicks and Cow Ghee to guide Lakshmi into your home while chanting: "Om Deepang Namah".
  • Step 5 - Naivedya (Food Offering): Offer sweet foods, the Pancha Sashya (grains), and coconut water as a gesture of deep gratitude while chanting: "Om Naivedyang Nivedayami".
  • Steps 1-5 (Welcome & Purification): The Pandit purifies the home with Ganga Jal and Gau Mutra, and establishes the sacred Ghat using the Ganga Mitti, Pancha Ratna, and Cowrie shells. He places the Chandmala and welcomes the Goddess.
  • Steps 6-9 (Madhuparka & Sringar): Crucially, the priest uses your included Madhuparka Bowl to offer the 6th-step sweet mixture (using the Pure Honey). The Goddess is then adorned in the Lal Cheli Cloth and the traditional Shankha Pola Loha bangles.
  • Steps 10-15 (The Grand Offerings): The deity is offered rich fragrances (Attar), Pancha Guri powders, and grand feasts of grain, illuminated by ghee lamps. The priest shows her the Sacred Mirror (Darpan).
  • Step 16 (The Complete Tambula): According to the strict rules of the Purohit Darpan, there is no 16-step royal worship where Tambula is not mandatory. The Pandit must conclude the offerings by presenting the mathematically perfect Tambula (Supari, Clove, Cardamom, Haritaki) to sweeten the Goddess's mouth.
  • Conclusion (Aarti & Havan): The ceremony concludes with a grand Aarti using the Pure Camphor and the Chawarfan. Finally, a fire ritual is performed using the Bel Kath, Joggo Dumur Pata, and Havan Samagri to permanently anchor prosperity in the home!
  •  • Attracting Supreme Wealth: Because Goddess Lakshmi actively searches for devoted households on this specific night, performing this puja directly invites financial abundance, success, and stability into the home.
  • • Purity and Positivity: Burning authentic Dhuna, Camphor, and Ghee clears the home of stagnant, negative energy, making the environment magnetic to the Goddess of Fortune.
  • • Marital & Familial Harmony: The offering of traditional items like the Shankha Pola Loha and beautiful Sringar elements invokes blessings for the long life, health, and joy of the family members.
  • The MySanatan Kojagari Lakshmi Puja Kit is a breathtakingly authentic spiritual package designed to help you stay awake and joyfully welcome the Goddess of Wealth! Frequently Asked Questions
  • Q1: Why is this specific puja called "Kojagari" and why do we have to stay awake?
  • For Beginners & Families: The word "Kojagari" comes directly from the Sanskrit phrase "Ko Jagarti?" which translates to "Who is awake?". According to the classical Purohit Darpan, on the night of the Ashvin full moon, the boon-giving Goddess Lakshmi descends and roams the earth. She looks to see who is staying awake to worship her, and she bestows incredible wealth and fortune upon those devoted households. Staying awake is your way of proving you are ready to receive her blessings!
  • Q2: The kit includes Natural Cowrie Shells. Are these just meant to be placed on the altar as decoration?
  • For Beginners & Children: While they are beautiful symbols of wealth, they have a much more exciting purpose on this specific night! Because families must stay awake to wait for the Goddess, the Purohit Darpan explicitly instructs devotees to stay up joyfully by playing auspicious games with dice or cowrie shells (akṣair jāgaraṇaṃ niśi). Playing traditional cowrie games with your family keeps the atmosphere vibrant and welcoming for Maa Lakshmi!
  • Q3: Our Pandit specifically asked if we have a "Madhuparka Bowl" and "Tambula" for the 16-step worship. Why are these so strict?
  • For Experienced Practitioners & Priests: Your Pandit is following the uncompromising rules of classical Vedic worship! By definition, a royal 16-step (Shodashopachar) puja requires exactly 16 specific offerings to fulfill the highest standard of divine hospitality. The sweet honey mixture (Madhuparka) is the mandatory 6th step, and presenting the betel leaf and spices (Tambula) to sweeten the deity's mouth is the compulsory 16th step. There is absolutely no 16-step worship without Tambula, which is exactly why we included the specific spices and the Madhuparka bowl in your kit!
  • Q4: Is there a specific traditional Prasadam (food offering) we should prepare for the midnight Kojagari worship?
  • For Beginners & Home Cooks: Yes! While you can offer many sweets, the Purohit Darpan gives highly specific instructions for the Kojagari night. It dictates that devotees must offer and drink coconut water (nārikelodakaṃ), and offer flattened rice (Cipiṭaka / Chira) to the deities and ancestors. Distributing this traditional coconut water and flattened rice late at night is the most scripturally authentic way to celebrate!
  • Q5: Why does this kit include regional items like "Shankha Pola Loha" and "Khukumoni Alta" alongside the classical Sanskrit Havan items?
  • For Experienced Devotees & Matriarchs: While the strict Sanskrit manuals broadly require you to offer the deity "garments" (Basan) and "ornaments" (Abharan), true household devotion relies on deep regional love. In Bengali tradition, Goddess Lakshmi is the ultimate symbol of the prosperous, joyous married woman. By offering her the highly specific, auspicious Shankha Pola (conch and coral bangles) and Alta (red foot dye), the household actively invokes her blessings not just for financial wealth, but for marital harmony, health, and a long, blissful family life!
