Perform this simple and traditional Vahan Puja to seek divine blessings, safety, prosperity, and protection for your new vehicle.
Before You Begin
• Park the vehicle in a clean and peaceful place.
• Wash or wipe the vehicle properly before the puja.
• Arrange all puja items neatly on a plate or tray.
Step 1: Purify Yourself (Achamana)& Sankalpa
Before beginning any external worship or touching the vehicle, the Pandit will guide you to perform Achamana by sipping pure water three times from your right palm. This is the uncompromising first step of all classical rituals. The Pandit will then lead you in a Sankalpa (sacred vow), declaring the time, place, and your prayer for safe, obstacle-free journeys.
Step 2: Purify the Vehicle with Ganga Jal (Shuddhi)
Take a few drops of Ganga Jal and sprinkle it on the vehicle for purification and positive energy. Ganga Jal is used for Shudhikaran (purification) of the vehicle and the surrounding space before the main ritual begins.
Step 3: Prepare & Apply the Tilak (Gandha)
Take a small amount of Red Roli Kumkum and Turmeric Powder. Mix lightly with a few drops of water to prepare a sacred tilak paste.
Apply the tilak:
• On the bonnet/front portion
• Near the steering wheel or handlebars
• Above the number plate (optional)
This ritual invites auspiciousness and divine blessings.
Step 4: Draw the Sacred Swastika Symbol
Using the Red Sindur, draw a traditional Swastika symbol on the bonnet or front side of the vehicle.
Step 5: Offer Akshat Rice (Pushpa/Akshat)
Gently place or sprinkle Akshat Rice (Chawal/Chal) over the tilak and Swastika symbol.
Step 6: Perform Aarti with Camphor & Agarbatti (Dhoopa, Deepa & Aaratrika)
Place the Camphor Flakes (Kapoor) safely on a tray or Aarti plate and light them along with the Premium Agarbatti (Dhup Kathi). Move the tray in gentle, clockwise circular motions in front of the vehicle to perform a traditional Aarti. (This honors the strict orthodox rule against using wax candles).
Step 7: Offer Prayers & Complete the Puja (Pranama)
Stand with folded hands and pray sincerely for:
• Safe journeys
• Protection from accidents and obstacles
• Prosperity and success
• Peace and positivity
You may chant any mantra according to your devotion. To formally complete the worship, bow respectfully (Pranama) before the vehicle to absorb the divine blessings.
Step 8: Conclusion
Allow the Camphor and Agarbatti to burn safely for some time. Touch the vehicle respectfully as a symbol of gratitude. Your Vahan Puja is now complete, and your vehicle is blessed for the roads ahead!
