  • Step 1: Purify the Puja Area with Ganga Jal
  • Take a few drops of Ganga Jal and sprinkle it:
  • Around the puja space 
  • On the Shiva Linga or idol 
  • On the puja items 
  • This ritual symbolizes purification and sacred cleansing.
  • Step 2: Honey & Ghee Abhishek
  • Offer Honey (Madhu/Sahad) followed by Cow Ghee on the Shiva Linga as a unified sacred Abhishek. 
  • This ritual symbolizes:
  • • Devotion
    • Sweetness of life
    • Purity
    • Prosperity
    • Divine illumination
  • Step 3: Applying Ashtagandha and Sacred Chandan
  • Prepare a light paste using White Chandan Powder with a few drops of water, then apply it on the Shiva Linga (and forehead of the idol if applicable). Use Ashtagandha Powder as a holy tilak on the Mahadev. Apply three horizontal lines (Tripundra) on the Shiva Linga using the White Chandan or Bhasma to symbolize the destruction of the three impurities: ego, ignorance, and past karma.
  • These pair to represent:
    • Peace, purity, and spiritual calmness
    • Pleasantness and divine fragrance
  • Step 4: Apply Vibhuti Bhasma
  • Offer or apply Vibhuti Bhasma (Sacred Ash) on the Shiva Linga.
  • Vibhuti represents:
  • Spiritual purity 
  • Detachment from material life 
  • The divine essence of Lord Shiva 
  • Devotees may also apply a small amount on their forehead after the puja.
  • Step 5: Offer Prayers and Mantra
  • Sit peacefully and pray with devotion.
  • You may chant:
  • “Om Namah Shivaya”
  • or
  • “Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra”
  • for peace, protection, positivity, and divine blessings.
  • Step 6: Complete the Puja
  • After the prayers:
  • Bow respectfully before Lord Shiva 
  • Sit silently for a few moments in devotion and gratitude 
  • Your Shiv Puja is now complete.

  • Before setting up, perform Achamana by sipping pure water three times from your right palm to purify your mind and body internally . Then, take a few drops of Ganga Jal and sprinkle it:

  • • On the puja items This ritual symbolizes deep internal purification and sacred cleansing. 
  • Step 2: Honey & Ghee Abhishek
