Durga Puja Kit

Durga Puja is performed to seek the blessings of Maa Durga for protection, strength, and victory over obstacles. It removes negative energies and brings prosperity, happiness, peace, and divine grace into life.

  • Durga Puja is the ultimate invocation of the Supreme Goddess (Durgatinashini), the dispeller of all miseries and the conqueror of evil. Worshipping the ten-armed Mother Goddess brings unshakeable inner strength, absolute protection for the family, and triumph over life's greatest adversities. A central feature of her grand worship is the Mahasnan (The Great Bath), which utilizes highly specific elements from all over the earth—like the Sapta Jal (7 waters), Pancha Kashaya (5 barks), and Saptamrittika (7 soils)—symbolizing that the entire universe and nature itself is bowing down to wash the feet of the Divine Mother!
  • The most spectacular and auspicious time for this worship is during the autumn festival of Sharadiya Navratri (in the Hindu month of Ashwin), culminating in the grand days of Maha Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Vijayadashami. It can also be performed during Vasant Navratri in the spring to invite her protective blessings for the rest of the year.
  • Step 1 - Gandha (Sacred Paste): Lovingly apply the Red/White ChandanAshtagandhaKasturi, and the fragrant Java Kusum Oil to the Goddess while chanting: "Om Gandhang Namah".
  • Step 2 - Pushpa (Flowers & Sringar): Offer fresh flowers, the Siddhi Leaves, the Shankha Pola Set, the Chandmala, and the Wooden Darpan (Mirror) to reflect her glorious form while chanting: "Om Pushpang Baushat".
  • Step 3 - Dhupa (Incense): Burn the fierce, purifying Dhuna and Guggal powder over the Chhobra to completely obliterate negative entities from the home while chanting: "Om Dhupang Namah".
  • Step 4 - Deepa (Illumination): Light your lamps using the Cotton WicksMustard Oil, and Cow Ghee to guide the Mother's radiant light into your home while chanting: "Om Deepang Namah".
  • Step 5 - Naivedya (Food Offering): Offer home-cooked sweet foods and seasonal fruits as a gesture of deep gratitude while chanting: "Om Naivedyang Nivedayami".
  • Steps 1-5 (Welcome, Boundaries & Purification): The Pandit purifies the home using the Ganga JalGau Mutra, and Kusha Grass. He establishes the sacred altar boundary (Ghat) using the Teer Kathi and Tekaata, formally offering a Seat (Asan), Welcome (Swagat), water for washing feet (Padya), a sacred offering (Arghya), and water for sipping (Achamaniya).
  • Steps 6-9 (Madhuparka, Mahasnan & Royal Adornment): The priest must offer the 6th-step sweet mixture (Madhuparka) in the beautiful Madhu Parker Bati using your included Pure Honey. Then comes the grand Mahasnan (The Great Bath) where the Goddess's reflection in the Darpan is bathed using the SaptamrittikaSapta JalPancha Kashaya (the barks of Jam, Shimul, Bhela, Kul, and Bakul), and the Sarbausadhi herbs. She is then draped in the Red Cheli Cloth (Basan), and majestically adorned with the Shankha Pola and Chandmala (Abharan).
  • Steps 10-15 (The Grand Offerings): The deity is offered rich fragrances like Aguru and Kasturi (Gandha), flowers and Siddhi Leaves (Pushpa). She is then offered fierce purifying incense (Dhupa), glowing ghee lamps (Deepa), and a grand food offering (Naivedya).
  • Step 16 (The Complete Tambula): According to the strict rules of the Purohit Darpan, a 16-step royal worship is invalid without Tambula. The Pandit concludes the offerings by presenting the scripturally mandated Supari, Haritaki, Clove, and Cardamom to sweeten the Mother's mouth.
  • Conclusion (Aarti & Havan): The ceremony concludes with a grand Aarti using the Pure Camphor and the Chawar fan. Finally, a massive fire ritual (Agnihotra) is performed using the Bel KathJoggo Dumur Pata, and Havan Samagri to permanently seal the fierce protection into the home!
  • • Absolute Protection: The highly specific boundary items, such as the Teer Kathi and Tekaata, create an impenetrable energetic fortress around the household, keeping away evil eyes, diseases, and misfortune.
  • • Triumph Over Adversity: Worshipping Goddess Durga invokes the courage and divine power needed to conquer legal battles, internal fears, and profound life obstacles.
  • • Complete Purification: The extraordinary elements used in the Mahasnan (like the Sapta Mrittika and Sapta Tel) draw on the purest energies of the earth, fundamentally cleansing the physical and spiritual atmosphere of your home.
  • The MySanatan Durga Puja Kit is the most breathtakingly comprehensive package ever designed to invoke the supreme power of the Divine Mother! We understand that to truly host the ten-armed Goddess, your offerings must represent the very essence of the universe. That is why we have carefully sourced the incredibly rare Saptamrittika (Seven Sacred Soils), Pancha Kashaya (Five Sacred Barks), Sarbausadhi, and Sapta Jal required for her authentic Mahasnan (Great Bath). By specifically including the traditional Madhu Parker Bati for the 6th step and the precise spices (Supari, Haritaki, Clove, Cardamom) strictly required for the 16th-step Tambula—which is absolutely mandated by the classical Purohit Darpan—we ensure your home is flawlessly prepared for the ultimate celebration of victory and divine grace!

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Q1: When we are offering the flowers (Pushpa) and Bilva leaves to Goddess Durga, is there a specific way they should face on the altar?
  • For Beginners & Families: Yes! According to the classical Purohit Darpan, flowers must be offered facing upwards, exactly as they bloom in nature. However, Bilva leaves (Bael pata) follow the exact opposite rule—they must be offered face-down (adhomukh). The manual also notes that while there are no strict rules for exactly how to hold the flowers, you should generally avoid offering them using your left hand.
  • Q2: We are setting up the grand feast (Naivedya) for the Goddess. Where exactly around the idol should we place the food bowls?
  • For Home Cooks & Devotees: The Purohit Darpan provides very strict physical directions for serving the divine feast! The manual instructs that the Naivedya food offerings must only be placed to the right side, the left side, or directly in front of the deity. The text emphatically commands that you must never place the food behind the idol ("Prishthe dibe na!").
  • Q3: I see the "White Cotton Janeu Thread" (Paita) is included. How should I wear it during the Durga Puja versus when I honor my ancestors?
  • For All Practitioners: The placement of your sacred thread dictates the cosmic destination of your prayers! According to the Apastamba Sutras and classical manuals, during regular divine worship (Upasana), fire rituals (Homa), and when honoring the gods, the thread must be draped over your left shoulder and under your right arm (a position known as Upaviti). However, when you perform ceremonies relating to the Ancestors (Pitrs), you must shift the thread to hang over your right shoulder (known as Pracinaviti).
  • Q4: Why does the priest insist we must formally declare our intentions (Sankalpa) before starting the grand puja? Can't we just start praying?
  • For Experienced Householders: A ritual without a Sankalpa loses its spiritual power! The Purohit Darpan quotes ancient scriptures stating that any religious act performed by a person without first making a formal Sankalpa (declaration of intent) yields only minor results, and half of the spiritual merit of the act is completely destroyed. Furthermore, the text strictly warns that you must never perform the Sankalpa using a clay pot; you must use a vessel made of copper, silver, stone, or conch.
  • Q5: When the priest finally offers the food (Naivedya) to Goddess Durga, he uses specific hand gestures over the offerings. What do these signify?
  • For Priests & Scholars: In highly traditional Tantric and Vedic worship, presenting the food is a deeply mystical act of energy transfer. According to the Purohit Darpan, when offering the Naivedya, the worshipper must form the Grasa mudra (the gesture of feeding) with their left hand. Simultaneously, with their right hand, they must form five highly specific vital-air gestures and recite the corresponding mantras (Prana, Apana, Samana, Udana, Vyana) to spiritually "feed" the five vital energies of the Divine Mother!
